I have written extensively on acid-base balance, latent acidosis, and its role in pain, allergies, diabetes, migraines, immune compromise, poor concentration and sleep, tinnitus, gastric diseases, malignant tumors, inflammation, degenerative joint disease and hyperparathyroidism.   The latest research shows that the body’s pH plays many other significant roles and that everyone should be aiming and a healthy level of urine pH of 6.4-6.7  and saliva pH of 6.6-6.8.

Acidosis promotes  Covid-19 Infection

COVID-19 is caused by SARS-CoV-2, a novel coronavirus that leads to many symptoms, on a spectrum ranging from asymptomatic to critical illness. COVID-19 is associated with increased mortality in critically ill patients.  In severe cases, the disease can lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome, metabolic acidosis, and multiple organ dysfunction syndromes, among other complications. But there is another important part to this puzzle.

During the lockdown in 2020-2021 in Australia, all bottle shops were open and chocolate was on the shelves even in one local clothing store considered both essential items ( but you could not buy cloth). All those items are extremely acidic. So what does it mean to be acidic?

Research indicates that:

  • Acidic conditions result in a higher viral infection rate than alkaline conditions
  • Under normal physiological conditions, arterial blood pH ranges between 7.35 – 7.45. In chronic metabolic acidosis ( CMA) patients it is lower than 7.35 and in patients induced by COVID-19 can decrease to 6.8
  • CMA caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection may promote further infection in COVID-19 patients, resulting in a vicious cycle. Therefore, antacid therapy for CMA and an alkaline diet in COVID-19 patients are necessary
  • The mechanism through which CMA promotes SARS-CoV-2 infection is by increasing the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) expression on the cell membrane and by inhibiting natural body defences. Increasing expression of the ACE2 protein promotes COVID-19 infection
  • While pH change (7.4 to 6.8) did not affect ACE2 total protein expression, acidic pH did however increase ACE2 levels on the cell membrane

By following a balanced diet and addressing nutrient deficiencies and/or correcting metabolic acidosis by supplementing with calcium, magnesium, and potassium, the symptoms will improve.

There is a wide range of natural alkaline supplements and patients who are on them and stick to the alkaline diet as much as they can have a dramatic improvement in their symptoms even over a short period of time. It is easy to achieve it and  your body will thank you for it
