Travelling overseas can be a health hazard; we may be exposed to thousands of people on a plane or at airports who potentially may carry viral or bacterial infections. Jet lag is unavoidable but can be minimised. Once in the country of your destination you need to watch the source of your food or water. If you travelling with small children we have few sanity tips for you too.

Jet lag

Hydration during air travel is the key to avoid jet lag

I recommend this method to all my patients who travel overseas. They all get from me homeopathic Nux vomica and start taking it three day before the flight, twice a day   and during the flight when you begin to feel jet lagged.  They continue taking Nux vomica for 3 days upon arrival in your country of destination.  Amber tincture or Amber oil can be an alternative to address a jet lag. Once on the plane or at the airports waiting for the connecting flight it is not advised   to drink coffee or alcohol. Both drinks are very dehydrating and will make your jet lagged even more. Please see our blog Live Blood Microscopy after drinking coffee. Red blood cells will become clumped and thus will minimise exchange of oxygen. Also both drinks are very acidic, which leads me to the next topic. I have noticed however that at some airports few shops are selling electrolyte drinks something like colloidal minerals. I find them very effective. They are not cheap, if you are travelling with the whole family. However your naturopath can supply you with 100ml bottle of colloidal minerals each. You will need to add 5-10 ml of colloidal minerals to every glass of water, as only plenty of water and hydration will minimise your jet lag. You will be pleasantly  supprises how great you will feel upon arrival .

Deep vein thrombosis and cramps

Few months ago on my trip to Europe I sat on a plane, next to a middle age men who were standing up every hour. He was saying that he gets up so often because of his deep vein thrombosis. After talking to him I have established that today he had so far 4 coffees (apparently for his jet lag, I was told), one coffee just now at Dubby airport waiting for a connecting plane to London. He had crumps in his legs as we were speaking. I recommended him to get magnesium ASAP for his cramps and to alkalise his body and refrain from drinking more coffee on a plane as it will make his leg crumps even worse.

Stimulate your immune system prior to flight

You may advise your naturopath at least a months prior to departure that you are travelling overseas and which country. Your naturopath will assists you in stimulating your immune system and will give you some specific supplements in tablets to take it with you overseas. Amber tincture is an excellent  remedy to take to protect your immune system while on a plane and  overseas. Please check the weather forecast in the county of destination as spring in Europe can be chilly sometimes and colder that winter in Australia.

Travelling with babies and small children

At the airport saying “good by” to my granddaughter

We all know that a pregnant woman should not fly because of the impact of radiation on an unborn baby. particularly in a long distance flights. Therefore I am still puzzled why some young parents take a new born baby across the globe to “show it off “to the family. Infant’s cells divide very fast and we do not want to interfere with that in any way. Flying can be daunting for adults not to mention babies or little children. I always travel with Australian Bush Flower Emergency Essence, which is also great for any distress for a child as well and adult. Alternatively you may also use Bach Flower Rescue Remedy. Both remedies may be used as often as you like to soothe your crying baby or distressed child or a parent.
